Data-driven decisions do little more than rough-in website optimization, PPC targeting, and other digital marketing campaigns. What is the difference between our Owlgorithm methodology and the only data-driven agencies. On the other hand, understanding refers to knowing or realizing the intended meaning or cause of something. This can also be defined as interpretation or view of a particular thing. This highlights that knowledge and understanding are two different concepts.” 1
What does this mean for digital marketing? While it’s wise to review and consider reliable information sources, it’s also extremely important to understand the information. Most digital marketing agencies lack intuitive skills, or do not trust themselves to make decisions. Instead, they allow AI or analytics reports to tell them what to do. They follow blindly and take their clients with them down whatever path they are led. Algorithms. An algorithm is a formulaic process which is utilized for problem-solving and systematically arriving at conclusions. An algorithm is designed to collect data and reach conclusions based on dry facts. In other words, algorithms know what but not why. It generally informs you of what has happened without any real ability to help you anticipte future behaviors.
Analytics Services such as Google Analytics and Google Ads provide useful insight on performance metrics. What they lack is insight on how the results came to be, and how to (truthfully) get better results. In our experience, the recommended actions promote increasing budgets, utilizing broad match, and other changes that cause you to spend more money. Analytics does not really help you get more from what you’re already spending or doing.
Artificial Intelligence. AI (artificial intelligence) knows only what has been programmed into it. This often results in producing biased information, without recognition of reality, that is fraught with outcome based evaluations. People making decisions using only AI and algorithms. In fact, AI systems are programmed using data from previous static analysis sources. So, does AI really do anything for you? No.

Excellent concept! My company has certainly had the experience of working with “marketing teams” that never quite had the answers to tough questions. The recommendation was (almost always) “increase your ad spend”. In other words, disregard the value of improving targeting an rely just on spewing bigger budgets in hopes that something works.
